Krankenkasse & SYLO

Is SYLO Covered by a German Statutory Health Insurer?

No. SYLO does not currently hold §20 SGB V (ZPP) prevention-course certification in Germany, so it is not directly reimbursed by statutory (GKV) health insurers. Some Krankenkassen run general wellness bonus programs that may cover part of an app subscription independent of ZPP certification. Terms vary by insurer, so check directly with your Krankenkasse.

What ZPP certification is

The Zentrale Prüfstelle Prävention (ZPP) assesses prevention courses against the German statutory insurers' prevention guideline (§20 SGB V). A certified course has a fixed, standardized concept: a set number of sessions with defined content, identical for every participant. Providers such as 7Mind or Balloon offer courses of that kind, and on completion many statutory insurers refund part or all of the course fee, often through a bonus program.

SYLO does not currently offer a course of that kind.

Honestly

Why SYLO is not certified (yet)

The ZPP process presupposes a course that runs the same way for every participant. That is the only way a course can be assessed and approved in a standardized manner. SYLO's core principle is the opposite: every meditation is generated fresh from your own reflection and differs from session to session and from person to person. That is the structural reason for the missing certification, not a quality judgment on SYLO or on certified programs. The two models solve different problems.

Common questions

Does my German statutory health insurer (Krankenkasse) cover SYLO?

No. SYLO does not currently hold §20 SGB V (ZPP) prevention-course certification, so it isn't directly reimbursed by statutory (GKV) health insurers in Germany.

Can I still claim SYLO through my insurer?

Some statutory insurers run a general bonus program that subsidizes health or wellness spending up to an annual cap, independent of ZPP certification. Whether your insurer offers one, and whether an app subscription like SYLO qualifies, differs from insurer to insurer. Ask your Krankenkasse directly about current bonus-program terms. SYLO cannot promise or guarantee reimbursement.

Why can't SYLO get certified when other apps are?

A §20 SGB V certification presupposes a fixed, standardized course concept: the same sequence of sessions for every participant, so it can be assessed uniformly. SYLO's whole product is built on the opposite. Every meditation is generated from your own reflection and is identical for nobody. That is a structural mismatch, not a quality judgment on either model.

Is SYLO a medical device or a replacement for therapy?

No. SYLO is a wellness tool for reflection and meditation. It is not a medical device and not a substitute for psychotherapy or medical treatment. For persistent mental-health symptoms, speak to a doctor or therapist, or use the crisis resources listed below.
